Video Summary ("the app", "we", "us") turns a long video into a short one containing only the parts that matter, entirely on your device. This policy explains what happens to your data. The short version: your videos, audio, and transcripts never leave your phone.
What we collect
Nothing of your content, ever. Video Summary has no backend, no user accounts, and no behavioural or usage analytics. We cannot see the videos you import or record, the audio extracted from them, or the transcripts our on-device speech recognition produces, because none of it is ever sent anywhere.
What stays on your device
- Your original videos are never modified. A video you import from your files is read-only; Video Summary only ever reads it to build a digest.
- Recordings you make in the app, using the camera and microphone, are saved to the app's private storage on your device.
- Digests — the shortened videos Video Summary produces — and the sentence text of the moments they keep, are stored in a local database on your device. Deleting a digest, or "Delete all digests" in Settings, removes them.
- Speech recognition is performed entirely on-device, using each platform's on-device recognizer. Video Summary requests on-device-only recognition and never falls back to a server-side recognizer. iOS may show its own standard permission disclosure mentioning Apple's speech-recognition service in general; that text is the operating system's boilerplate for the API, not a description of what this app does with it.
- App settings — your chosen digest length, recording quality, and analysis language — are stored locally.
The two things that do leave your device
Exactly two network calls exist in Video Summary, and neither carries any video, audio, or transcript:
- RevenueCat, to check and manage your subscription. RevenueCat receives a device-generated identifier and your purchase and entitlement status. It does not receive your content, your name, or your email. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
- Firebase Crashlytics, if the app crashes or hits an unexpected error. A crash report contains a stack trace, the OS version, and the device model only — never your videos, audio, transcripts, file paths from your library, or any digest content. See Firebase's Privacy and Security page.
Permissions
Video Summary asks for camera and microphone access to record video, and for on-device speech recognition to find the moments that matter. Each permission is requested at the moment it is needed, with the reason shown on screen, and none of it is requested until you actually use that feature.
Payments
The subscription is billed by the App Store or Google Play and managed through RevenueCat, which tells the app whether your subscription is active. We never receive or process your card details — that is handled entirely by Apple or Google.
Children
Video Summary is not directed to children under 13.
Your rights
Because your content never reaches us, there is nothing for us to export or delete on your behalf. You are in full control: deleting a digest, using "Delete all digests" in Settings, or deleting the app removes your content from the device. To review or remove what RevenueCat or Firebase hold about your device identifier or crash history, contact us below or use those providers' own channels.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the updated date above will change and the new version will be posted here before it takes effect.
